About
Born in 1995, Marion Artense Gély lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC) in 2020 and has been in residence at POUSH Manifesto in Aubervilliers since 2021.
Marion Artense Gély, an explorer of elements, delves into the intricacies of the infinitely small and the vast expanses of the infinitely large, seeking the essence that animates the world. Through the ancient techniques of glazing and sfumato, she navigates beyond appearances to uncover the layers of forgotten memory. Her work flourishes at the intersection of painting, photography, and sculpture, with each medium becoming a vessel, a keeper of lights, and a narrative that emerges from a timeless dialogue between dawn and dusk. These stories depict a human imprint fading from coveted territories, revealing a haunting absence. The complexity of temporal images unfolds, sketching a new world where elements embody a unique essence. This emergence seeks to transcend the temporal boundaries of the Anthropocene in a deliberate attempt to reimagine the sacred.
Force, Energy, and Emergence—the trinity at the heart of her painting—now resonates with her work in ceramics. This ritual, established during the long drying times required by her painting technique, now serves her to explore an obsessive Emergence: the living.
Marion Artense Gély’s works have been exhibited in France and abroad, notably during the residency at La Chapelle Saint-Antoine on the island of Naxos in 2022; at the Myriam Chair Gallery and the Galerie May in 2023; as well as at the Galerie Dumonteil in Paris in the summer of 2024. In the autumn of the same year, her work will be displayed at the Dauphine Gallery and during the Darmo Art Prize ceremony, where she is one of the ten finalists. Eight of her paintings have been acquired by the Orient-Express La Minerva Hotel in Rome, under the direction of the French architect and designer Hugo Toro.
