Raphaëlle Bertran

b. 1992

About Raphaëlle Bertran Pinheiro deploys her technique on large formats. Her pictorial universe is rich in references to philosophy (Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Maurice Blanchot, Heidegger...), literature (Georges Bataille, Fondane...) and art history. Her compositions appear as a condensed version of human history, a universe where absurdity, terror and the force of life come together as a highly topical reflection of the world, a topicality restored from the material of the past. Raphaëlle holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy of Art from Paris IV (2015) and a DNSAP from the Beaux-Arts de Paris (2020). Raphaëlle’s paintings have notably been exhibited at the Grande Halle de la Villette, the Collection Société Générale and at POUSH in an exhibition curated by Chiara Parisi, director of the Centre Pompidou Metz. In 2021, she wins the Alberic Rocheron painting prize. In 2022, she won first prize for painting in the 25th edition of the Prix Antoine Marin, awarded by a jury that included painter David Hockney and gallerist Kamel Mennour, and also won the Prix Carré sur Seine in the same year. The Collection Société Générale also acquired one of her paintings in 2022. In May 2023, she had her first solo exhibition at Galerie Isabelle Gounod, and two of her works joined the Emerige collection. Raphaëlle Bertran is the winner of the Darmo Art Prize 2024 and received her first solo exhibition with Darmo in March 2025.
